Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced yesterday that he has received the endorsement of Puerto Rico Democratic Party Chair Luis Dávila Pernas in his campaign for Mayor of New York City.
In his announcement, Cuomo stated that “New York is the proud home of more Puerto Ricans than any other place outside of the island and our bond with our brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico is rich, deep and unbreakable.”
In his endorsement video, Chairman Luis Dávila Pernas stated that “Andrew Cuomo has and always will stand with the people of Puerto Rico.”
He further reminds viewers that in 2017, when Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, Governor Cuomo “flew to Puerto Rico to coordinate aid after the federal government failed to act,” and that in 2020, when earthquakes destroyed Puerto Rican homes, “Governor Cuomo flew to Puerto Rico again,” bringing in the National Guard to aid in response.
“That’s what real leadership looks like: undeterred and relentless,” he continues.
“When Puerto Rico needed a friend,” he concludes, “Andrew Cuomo was there, and now its time for us to be there for Andrew.”
